I started my career in design at age fifteen, working for a bespoke suiting company in New York.
There, I learned the fundamentals
of menswear design and began to form my personal aesthetic sensibilities.
The following year, I expanded upon what I had learned and sought out an opportunity to see how a clothing company was built for a mass demographic. I started working at Kith NYC, at the formative stages of their brand, under Nick Annacone. I was able to observe the logistics and operations that help a brand grow, and built connections with the designers there in order to learn technical design. Later that year I began making my first original designs with a local factory outside of my hometown near Detroit, Michigan.
In 2016, I studied the wholesale side of the business while working for Helmut Lang, and in 2017, I spent time working for Matthew Williams and his brand Alyx, in Ferrara, Italy. Just months before the move to Italy, I presented my first capsule collection at Linda Dresner and began work on the first full collection for my newly formed, eponymous brand, Carter Young.
For the past 3 and a half years I have acted as creative and artistic director of the brand. I recently presented my SS21 Collection at New York Fashion Week and was featured in The New York Times, WWD, Vogue and Garage Magazine.
